Today many Christians find themselves wandering if we are facing the “End of Days” as told about in the Book of Revelations. With the extreme weather we have seen this year, the increase in earthquake activity, all the wars going on in the Middle East, financial instability of European Countries as well as the United States, it is no wander that Christians would begin to see this as signs that the end of days are coming soon.
However the Book of Revelations in the New Testament of the Bible is not the only book of the bible to predict the coming of judgement day, or the final day. In the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament we see this prophecy of the end times as well.
It is stated, “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”
Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, “How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?”
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it “shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished”.
When the Roman empire battled against the Jews for control of Jerusalem many of the Jews believed that this was the end of days as foretold in the bible.
The Jewish population began to battle against themselves, as you had one side that believed in settling matters the peaceful way and the other side who believed that force was the only answer. Although Jerusalem was a great strong hold the raging battle between the Jews themselves actually led to the capture of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple.
It is quite an epic tale, of how these two sides of the Jewish faith acted towards one another. Each destroying their foes stores of grain, forcing the population as a whole to face starvation. Many Jews had died from the starvation alone even before the Roman Soldiers had broken in the town. I have attached a you tube video that tells the tale of these two sides and the bitter fall of Jerusalem to the Romans.
One can only hope that an old saying that “History Repeats Itself” will indeed not be true should we be facing the End Of Days.
How long will we survive if we battle against each other?
Our enemy will not be the differences between us, but a much crueler opponent. We must learn to accept each others beliefs whether they align with our own or not and work out peaceful ways to accept all, without judgement. We, the people, are not the judges of this World, nor are the Leaders of the Churches, only one will judge, and he has not yet returned. We must learn to live with each other and care for each other as we would ourselves, this is where our differences will be solved and the Kingdom of Heaven revealed, through love and love alone. If we can not resolve our differences or better yet, accept them, then will we end up destroying each other and weakening the rest, as in this story of the Jews?
“Judge not, that ye be judged. For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” mat 7:1-
